...imagine an IPO...

SNAP is the ticker symbol for SnapChat

They call themselves a "camera company."

Snap Inc. is a camera company.

We believe that reinventing the camera represents our greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate.

Our products empower people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together.

Most of us probably have encountered them as a company that allows children to take pictures of their parents and make them look stupid -- like this:

They lose a lot of money and seem to have no prospects for making much.

Their new great invention was a brief flash, and hasn't been heard from since. (Snap Spectacles)

SNAP was trading higher just after its IPO.

SNAP has retained a market cap of 25 Billion dollars. It seems to have stabilized around this level.

25 Billion for a company that has a wearable camera that takes 10 second videos, and some filters for pictures you have taken.

**************************

Now, consider a different company.

It not only has technology for these applications, but is beginning mass production on it's tiny projector that makes a portable large display.
  • Portable large displays
  • Portable large touch screens
  • 3D laser scanning Technology (really useful in Robots, self driving cars, and scanning environments for augmented reality applications.)
  • Near eye displays for Augmented reality applications
  • Projection for heads up displays.
SNAP is over valued here, but is this company worth more than SNAP?

My vote is yes.

Microvision's share price is currently holding at around $2. With a market capitalization equal to that of SNAP, the price will be right around $350.

If you're in, you're in early.

If you're not in yet, you have a fantastic opportunity.

SNAP CHAT IPO.

34 Billion IPO....

Loses 500 Million/year

They could EASILY say exactly what they're saying about SNAP here -- about Microvision.

Microvision is ridiculously undervalued.

Snap shares closed their first day of trading up 44 percent at $24.48 a share, quenching a long drought in the market for tech IPOs.
More than 200 million shares — the entire size of the offering — changed hands over the course of the day, accounting for roughly 10 percent of the total volume of trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.
The stock opened shortly before 11:20 a.m. on Thursday in New York, and started trading at $24 a share, rising 41.2 percent from its pricing at the open. The company, trading under the ticker SNAP, priced its public offering at $17 a share on Wednesday.
Share prices rose as high as $26.05, according to FactSet, and fell as low as $23.50.

SnapChat IPO and the value question

So, SnapChat values itself at somewhere between 19 and 22 billion.

SnapChat let's people "talk" with pictures.

Yes, it's used very widely.

But what is worth more? This application (and it's "appurtenances") with its disappearing videos, or something that will allow you to share this and all other visual content, with people around you?

...and that's before we consider, LiDar and touch-enabled projected images.

Snap Inc. set a starting price range of $14 to $16 per share for its initial public offering, which at the top end could value the Los Angeles technology company at more than $22 billion.
The IPO of the Snapchat mobile app developer is expected to be the largest ever for a Los Angeles firm and the biggest since Alibaba and Facebook.

Fitbit - A Market & Market Cap Comparison.

Fitbit recently went public.

As this is being written, Fitbit is trading at a price/earnings ratio of 90.94 and a market capitalization of 8.73 billion dollars.

Fitbit is an interesting comparison for MicroVision, much like GoPro is. These are both companies that sell consumer electronics devices.

There is probably a lot of market overlap between the Fitbit audience and the GoPro audience. The PicoP audience covers ALL of their audience and all of the couch potatoes as well.

With the CDC reporting that 80% of US citizens aren't getting enough exercise, the Fitbit audience is limited - unless you believe that a lot of people are interested in discovering and monitoring how unfit they are.

We could do a lot of guessing about how much market share is possible for each product, but ask yourself these two questions:

1) how many people do you think are worried about getting a spreadsheet of their daily heart rate and maybe having a contest with their friends
 2) how many people do you think are interested in sharing pictures, viewing video or playing games?
Who wants to carry a big-screen TV in their pocket?

Why MicroVision?

I happen to think that the size of the market represented in #2 is FAR larger than the market represented in #1.

The market cap for Fitbit - which represents market #1 - is $8,730,000,000. Fitbit also has significant competition.

MicroVision is currently grossly undervalued. I firmly believe that if MicroVision were an IPO now, it would get a similar market valuation.

If MicroVision had Fitbit's market cap: Microvision shares would be trading at a decently valued $180/share.
