At the moment if you’re trying to follow a recipe, you’d either have a book in front of you or for the more tech savvy, a tablet with video instructions. However with IKEA’s imagining of the kitchen of the future, the tabletop itself is one giant piece of technology. The table will be able to detect the objects placed on it thanks to a camera-equipped projector, such as ingredients, and will be able to offer up different recipes that one might be able to cook up with their existing ingredients.

Microvision + Enhanced Surfaces (Google, Whirlpool, Microsoft, Sony, Ford, Range Rover)
Microvision's PicoP technology can project images onto nearly any surface.

I suspect that no one will allow this kind of intense display on a windshield, but it does a great job of showing what is possible.
Not certain that it's PicoP, but all of this is possible with PicoP, and with Sony in the mix (and with previous confirmation that Microvision and Ford are working together, likelihood is high.)
Not certain that this is PicoP, but it is very likely. Other HUD technologies would be difficult to implement in this way. (IMHO)
This makes moving pictures available anywhere -- which has obvious benefits for enjoyment and information.
The ability to interact with the images makes PicoP even more valuable as something to enhance surfaces. There have been samples that have appeared in the last year, and collecting those samples on one page, in one post is useful to see the potential.
First, the "Surface Phone" -- a concept prototype.
This uses both a Microvision PicoP & and iPhone 5
On the video start paying attention at 1:10. At the time this was released, we weren't certain that this was PicoP inside, but now we're virtually certain. This could come to any coffee shop, restaurant, or your own kitchen table. -- It's not difficult to imagine any number of industrial or educational uses for this technology.

This is an example of an enhanced surface. With practical application, and of course, not difficult to imagine wide adaptation of this -- or applications beyond cooking.Penbook
This prototype was created using a PicoP. The video does a great job explaining the benefits. This makes going paperless very easy, the sample applications are excellent, and it is easy to see how this could become very popular and to soon be seen as "essential."

"IMPLEMENTATION
In the following, we first introduce the custom-built hardware setup and its components. Second, we detail the software architecture and integrated components. As there is currently no available slate device which features a built-in projector and paper-like cover, we designed and built such a system consisting of four main components which are described in the following:
1) A tablet computer (Motorola Zoom 2) that serves as the upright touch screen.
2) A smartphone (Samsung Galaxy SII) connected to a laser pico-projector (Microvision ShowWx+ HDMI) in order to control the projected screen and its content. The optical path of the projection passes two mirrors in order to increase its overall length. Despite the low brightness of the projector, the projection can be seen very well in standard indoor lighting due to the short distance to the projection surface and the innate sharp focus of the laser projector.
3) An Anoto pen, which supports hand-written input on paper equipped with a specific pattern. The pen does not dispense ink; instead, strokes made with the pen are projected on the paper. The pen tracks the Anoto pattern on the paper to track its position on the projection screen using a built in infrared camera. The information is sent via Bluetooth to the mobile phone. We reverse-engineered the communication protocol of the pen and wrote a driver to connect the digital pen to Android that allows fine-grained control over its features. Additionally, a capacitive cap was added to enable pen-touch input on the touch screen. The above mentioned components are integrated into an aluminum case with a flexible stand and a foldable cover that contains the projection screen.
The commercial availability of projector phones (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Beam) indicates that that device could be built in a form factor similar to standar slate devices. The Penbook software components are jointly distributed between the devices."
