Coca Cola testing the use of AR

Coca Cola testing Augmented Reality for Maintenance.

When a good idea comes along, people will find it and use it..

This is going to be HUGE.

Michael Terrell was playing an augmented reality (AR) video game with his son when he got an idea.

“I started thinking, ‘Surely we can use this technology in our bottling plants’,” said Terrell, director of operational excellence for Coca-Cola Refreshments.

Unlike virtual reality (VR), which replaces the real world with computer-simulated environments, AR overlays data on top of the real world via software-enabled smartglasses. Terrell, who is responsible for using emerging technologies to reduce costs, improve quality control and drive efficiencies throughout the Coca-Cola supply chain, saw the opportunity for technicians to use AR to access maintenance and service information within their line of sight, while keeping their hands free.

Reconfiguring bottling equipment for different packaging options – for example, switching a production run from 150-ml cans to 8-oz. glass bottles – is a complex process known as a changeover. Terrell and his team are using AR to minimize downtime during changeovers, boosting overall output. Technicians onboard cruise ships also are testing AR to remotely service Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain dispensers when issues arise at sea.

More Mobile Video - Facebook

More short videos - perfect for PicoP.

The more the better, the bigger.

CNBC

Facebook will roll out its first long-form video shows in June, according to a new report in Business Insider, part of a push to build a stable of original video programming on which it can sell more ads.
The company will have roughly two dozen shows of two types: shorter ones of five-to-10 minutes in length and others similar to traditional TV entertainment.
Facebook executives have said previously they plan to create an "ecosystem" of professionally produced video content to augment the user-generated fare that now fill its web properties.
The company is also hiring for positions more familiar to Hollywood than Silicon Valley.
In doing so, it joins other tech giants Amazon and Google's YouTube in pushing into the business of entertainment amid an explosion of demand for digital video advertising.

May 7, Charlotte, Pokemon

Pokemon Go is still on the radar. It was the first really mainstream AR application, and put Augmented Reality on the map.

So, this article is interesting. Sounds like they'll be doing some new things with it, and it could be an excellent way to use projection.

PokeStops are visible in this event

PokeStops will be visible along with the event. It's likely that Niantic plans to gather players in that specific area. Aside from visibility in-game, these areas will be marked physically for everyone to see.

According to sources, this may be another experimental plan for another huge event that will take place sooner or later such as Legendary events that will spawn super rare Pokemon in a specific area for a limited time. Otherwise, Niantic may be celebrating an achieved milestone in their game. In line with the previous "Pokemon GO" ratings, it was slowly declining and this event may revive the glory days of the game..

The event may contain a huge announcement

The street party may also be another way to resuscitate the game along with new updates, events, or additions. However, Niantic Labs remains silent and will make this event a surprise. Other rumors even mention trading features and additional ones that may be added in the future.

Microsoft and AR in Education

Augmented reality is going to change the world. Learning many things is going to get a lot easier.

Being a player in the AR display space will serve MVIS shareholders nicely. If my read of the landscape is right and this is the preferred display... it will be REALLY good.

Augmented Reality News

In an effort to take back the classroom from Apple and Google, the Redmond, Washington-based company took the HoloLens around the world to test its capabilities in a number of different learning environments. In every classroom they visited, educators and students seemingly agreed on the benefits that the mixed reality headset brought to their learning environment. The HoloLens allowed students to engage hands-on in their subjects to reach new dimensions of understanding. Making challenging topics for students young and old accessible by creating a more visual and tactile experience.

How to keep production a secret

This is interesting, a little insight into how they keep things secret. (Really amazing they can with so many people involved.)

...enables stuff we didn't imagine...

Augmented Reality is going to help increase productivity and improve worker training.  Apparently it will also enable some pretty weird stuff.

Like dating cartoon characters. (but even this will be helping move the tech forward.)

There will be more that will surprise. Human creativity is amazing.
