Sharp - better innovation than Apple.

Sharp doing better at innovation -- and their phone receives TELEVISION SIGNALS -- wonder what they're up to?

Seeking Alpha - Today's Apple Products are Absurd

My response: An American-centric view ignores the innovations of foreign companies, often dismissing them as "strange." I live in Japan, and I chose a Sharp (OTCPK:SHCAY) Aquos over an iPhone. It's 100% water-proof, the screen is beautiful and it receives television signals. The phone was made in 2012, and in spite of the new smartphones flooding the market I feel no reason to upgrade.

Sharp is truly making innovations to its smartphones, but Americans do not know about these innovations simply because Japanese companies are reluctant to test US waters. Only after Americans proactively show interest in Japanese products are those products shipped overseas.

The most innovative smartphone strides are arguably being taken by Sharp, not Apple. Consider Sharp's RoBoHoN: Half-robot, half-phone. If Siri were the radio, RoBoHoN is the television. RoBoHoN personifies the smartphone, leveraging a new type of love Apple originally brought into our lives.

The RoBoHoN is a "Zero to One" innovation in the smartphone industry (see below), whereas upgrades to the iPhone are "One to Many" innovations.

As for the second point, profit and innovation are not equivalent. This shouldn't need explaining.

PicoAir rig to show live television

The PicoAir playing regular television and a set up to do so.

I suspect it's only a matter of a very short time before an OEM releases a device that will do all of this -- and add a DVR function with it as well. From this set up, you can see that the picture is excellent the same lighting that most people use for watching television.

Thanks Edward

Apple CEO Cook on TV

While there is disappointment we didn't make the September iPhone release date -- no one, including myself was even remotely hopeful for an iPhone inclusion, except perhaps as an accessory. (And why dilute the thunder of your main event?) Included below is last years schedule of Apple product releases. There are more days in the year.

Apple CEO Tim Cook made an appearance on the Charlie Rose Show, where he briefly touched upon the future of Apple TV. The full segment will air Friday night on PBS, but we have a clip for you below.
Cook first pointed out that the hardest decisions Apple has to make are the things “not to work on.”
Asked if TV is one of those, Cook replied, “TV is one that we continue to have great interest in.”
He further elaborated, “TV is one of those things that is stuck back in the 70s. Think about all the things that have changed …and TV almost feels like you’re rewinding the clock, the interface is terrible. It’s awful.”
But when Rose asked why Apple’s not fixing that problem, Cook simply said, “It’s an area we’ll continue to look at,” noting the current Apple TV box now has over 20 million users and an increasing set of content.
