SONY pending announcements -- UPDATED

This article from Android Headlines strikes a significantly different tone than most of the other leak and new device articles I see. (I look at a LOT of them.) This has a distinctly different tone, and I suspect the author knows more than is being written about here. Android Headlines is also a source I take more seriously than most.

My guess, based on this and other things I've read through is that the MPCL1 will be introduced in August, be featured at IFA (possibly even at GamesCom from August 5-9) and available for sale as we've read elsewhere in October.

As stockholders, the attention this new technology gets will soon be worth more to us than company earnings. I think we'll get both.

UPDATE AGAIN:

According to Sony, “Something golden is sparkling on the horizon.” Unfortunately apart from that rather cryptic message, we have no idea what Sony is going on about. It is possible that they might be referring to a new smartphone color option which wouldn’t be surprising, especially since gold seems to be the in thing in terms of color options these days.

It has been speculated that Sony’s recent tweets might have something to do with a new product announcement. After all it was tweeted by Sony’s Xperia Twitter account which is related to mobile devices, so safe to say that this will be a mobile-related announcement. We have been speculating that it could be for new handsets.

So far we have been hearing about devices like the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, but it is entirely possible it would be another device entirely. It might even be software related although we’re hoping that it’ll be a new smartphone. In any case all will be revealed on the 3rd of August, so check back with us next week for the details.

UPDATE: Just noticed this in ifreepress. This is very unusual language for these kinds of articles. I read two or three of these a day and scan a dozen others. This is NOT normal, so I really believe that something is up.

ifreepress

"It’s only a tiny amount of patience we need to muster until August 3, when the announcement is scheduled for, but then again Sony might surprise us and reveal something entirely different."

Ausdroid

"Sony begins teasing August 3rd Event with focus on photos."

Android Headlines

Below are just little clips from the full article.

... seems like Sony is preparing to launch something exciting before the end of the year. Sony is rumored to be working on a couple of high-end devices which will reportedly going to be released on August 18th.

It seems like Sony plans to make some serious announcements next month, it only remains to be seen what will be announced. Take this rumor with a grain of salt though, this is the first time we see a rumor regarding the Xperia M5, and the device is reportedly going to launch in a couple of days. We haven’t seen any info regarding it thus far, so… who knows. Either way, we’ll find out what’s what soon enough.

So, according to the available info (leaks), Sony will launch devices on both August 3rd and 18th.

That’s not all though, the Xperia C5 Ultra ‘bezel-less’ prototype was caught in a photo recently, and revealed its rather sleek design.

So, according to the available info (leaks), Sony will launch devices on both August 3rd and 18th. .. As you can see, Sony is planning to launch quite a few interesting devices soon, at least according to a slew of rumors / leaks that have surfaced in the last couple of weeks. Either way, let’s wait and see what happens.

MicroVision's Brilliant Management

MicroVision licenses an imaging technology. While it may be included in devices that exist only to have this imaging technology, it's best use has always been anticipated to be a component in other devices.

Embedded in smart phones has long been the goal for PicoP technology. Even when the best phones were flip-phones. I don't remember the last time I saw one.

So, given supply chain difficulties where would a brilliant management team take Microvision? Once the supply chain problems were solved, what would be the best partner for MicroVision?

A company with these qualities?
  • makes the best imaging products
  • makes its own innovative consumer electronics products
  • makes outstanding cellphones
  • makes components for all other major OEM's cell phones
  • Has huge video content library & distribution
That's where MicroVision's management has taken us - to SONY. MicroVision's management managed to get SONY as a partner.

There could be no better partner. It will be a mutually beneficial association that will benefit all parties: MicroVision, SONY, their customers and their shareholders.

No better possible partner exists than SONY. If for no other reason than they make camera components for every major smartphone on earth. They're so good they're having trouble keeping up with demand.

When PicoP -- SONY's next great component rolls out -- they're already selling components to Apple, Samsung & Xiaomi -- the big three cellphone makers.

Verizon & AT&T see Huge Opportunity for Mobile Video

People like mobile first, then big screens. When a technology like PicoP can provide them both -- it's going to be extremely valuable to mobile data providers.

Verizon sees 80% of media consumption going mobile!

SONY and Verizon are cooperating: (Sony Z4v at Verizon)

Something else very interesting in this article is the amount AT&T is paying for DirecTV. The value of content for mobile networks is huge -- and PicoP can deliver content for anyone -- and probably will be for everyone. Will we get to a 48.5 Billion valuation? (ATT buys DirecTV

To deliver content, you need the pipes, the content, and the medium. PicoP is the link between portability and large screen experience.

From MyWayNews

We see the world shifting very quickly to mobile and we believe that mobile will represent 80 percent of consumers' media consumption in the coming years. And the Verizon-AOL partnership will allow us to capture that shifting opportunity," said Verizon CFO Fran Shammo on a conference call.

Verizon's mobile video service will work on competitors' networks as well as on Wi-Fi and will include ad-supported data, says Verizon executive vice president Marni Walden. That could mean an advertiser pays for some of the data required — video is a data hog.

Verizon is securing deals for live and on-demand content, Walden said. The company currently has the rights to the Live Earth concert, a partnership with the NFL that lets wireless phone subscribers pay $5 a month to watch live football games and a deal for exclusive content with AwesomenessTV, an Internet video network.
AT&T, Verizon's wireless rival, has gone in a different direction with video. It's buying satellite TV provider DirecTV for $48.5 billion. Regulators must still approve that deal.

SONY Code Name "Lavendar"

ラベンダー  -- Lavendar -- in Japanese the flower means "Faithful"

This may be nothing or something big -- this is one of those things that goes up on the "alert" screen. I've been watching this for a while, as the leaks appeared and started to gain a little traction. Then this appeared.

You can read it any way you want to, the language could certainly mean that this is just a slightly larger phablet is going to be produced, or something considerably more interesting. Time will tell.

From iSchoolGuide

"The leaked specs also say the Lavender will come with a Full HD display "bigger than [the] Xperia C4." According to specs listed on GSM Arena, the yet-be-released Xperia C4 has a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920p IPS LCD display."

From Recombu
"According to the leak it will come with a MediaTek MT6752 64Bit 1.7GHz octa-core SoC and 2GB of RAM, which should deliver reasonably chipper performance. While we don’t yet know what size it will be, the leaker claims it will be bigger than the Sony Xperia C4, which boasts a 5.5-inch screen. "

Interesting new stuff headed for Verizon? UPDATED 5/13/2015

From PhoneArena

Verizon is seemingly getting ready to release several interesting devices, including the Sony Xperia Z4, two unannounced tablets from Apple and LG, and a new Desire from HTC. According to Evan Blass (aka @evleaks), all these devices are "coming to Verizon", though there's no word on exactly when they'll be released.

We don't know if the Xperia Z4 that's headed to Verizon is similar to the Japanese version of the handsetSony is supposedly preparing a global variant of the Z4, so we assume that's the one that will be sold by Verizon.

As for the upcoming Verizon tablets that we mentioned above, these are, reportedly, the Apple iPad mini 4, and the LG G Pad X 8.3. Since the iPad mini 3 was announced in October 2014, we're not expecting the iPad mini 4 to be unveiled before October this year. We don't know anything about the LG G Pad X 8.3, but this is likely the successor to the LG G Pad 8.3 from 2013 (which Verizon is currently selling for $129.99 on contract).

Another Article found later: TechTimes

"Serial leaker @evleaks took a break from his quiet life of retirement to announce that Verizon will be carrying four interesting new devices, two of which remain unannounced."

Good Z4 Summary

@digitalspy

James Bond's next smartphone

We learned a fair bit about the Xperia Z4 when hackers targeted Sony Pictures as apparent details about the smartphone were included in leaked documents pertaining to the next James Bond film, Spectre.

It seems Daniel Craig's 007 is set to be equipped with the Xperia Z3 successor, although his version will probably be outfitted with an extra feature or two.

Xperia Z4 Imminent? (New Features Ad Campaign) -- UPDATED

The Mystery Port is worth paying attention to in this context.

FCC License Granted expertreviews.co.uk

And More Pictures (Haven't had a chance to really go through this....)

Android Headlines

"Sony Mobile...will be continuing to develop new and exciting mobile products for users around the globe"

"...Sony Mobile is starting that process with a new globally spanned ad campaign that is reportedly going to be using a big budget, although Sony wouldn’t disclose the amount in regards to an actual dollar figure,..."

"The new ads will focus on informing consumers how they can make their everyday life extraordinary, which is Sony’s internal goal. To help consumers turn their ordinary days into extraordinary events and moments utilizing what Sony’s devices have to offer. With each ad spot, which will be seen across TV, billboards, and online, Sony will be telling consumers what their phones can do using the words “I Can” to express specific features or capabilities. Two of the most notable capabilities of Sony Mobile’s more recent devices are exceptional two day battery life (at least) and the IP68 waterproofing. For these particular features, Sony is releasing ads that state “I can stay awake for days,” and “I can survive underwater,” as well as another that mentions “I can see in the dark” meant to highlight the low-light photo quality of Sony’s devices. They don’t come right out and say exactly what the features are, but the ads are new and bold and just attention-grabbing enough to leave consumers with wanting to know more,

Android Headlines
Z4 MobileChoiceUK

"A new smartphone made an appearance today with the code-name Sony E6553. Even though this code-name may have no meaning for us, it is most definitely the Xperia Z4, Sony's next flagship.
Sony let Mobile World Congress pass by without launching the Xperia Z4 and we are yet to hear about the release date or specifications from the tech giant. However, the new device captured at GFXBench revealed quite a few specifications today that seem to indicate a real deal is in the offing.
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, the device features 23GB internal storage and 3GB RAM. A 5.1 inch full HD display is complemented by the powerful Adreno 430 graphics."
"The Xperia Z4 is definitely headed for a debut some time this month or next, as more and more details continue to come out. A few days ago, purported specs of the Xperia Z4 leaked out on GFXBench. Yesterday, it seems as if the upcoming Sony device has passed through the FCC."

"According to the FCC documents, the unnamed Sony device packs nearly the same dimensions as the Xperia Z3. One of the highlights of the latest info on what could be of the Xperia Z4, is that it features a microSD card slot. It’s good to see that Sony is sticking to their guns, because as we’ve seen with Samsung, microSD expansion isn’t that important.
Not much else is mentioned throughout the FCC documents, although Phandroid notes that “the device in question is packing a nice amount of frequency bands to support US networks.”

So, multiple cores for efficient video playback, a "mystery port," easy-access MicroSD... and rigged up for Support on American networks.

Note -- we have no idea whether PicoP is involved with the Z4 at all -- but it's a place to watch, and apparently we'll know more about this device very soon.
